Two of Syndicate's longtime collaborators exhibit their work for the first time in Mexico.
Lina Lapelytė presents Masquerade for Two, performed twice daily at 1:30 and 5 PM. This is a newly commissioned performance work (a development of Hunky Bluff, originally performed for the Serpentine Gallery in London) consisting of a choreography for 3 Mexico City-based singers – two countertenors (high-voiced males) and a contralto (low-voiced female) – on a specially-constructed motorized platform.
Maruša Sagadin’s Oh Bigness, oh Schutz vor ihr (‘Oh Bigness! Oh shelter us from her!’) is a new site-specific wall work comprised of new drawings and elements from 'Herz-Bar', her recent commission for the Vienna Secession, as well as recent public projects for the cities of Graz and Vienna, Austria.
Lina Lapelytė is a visual artist, musician, and composer producing multi-disciplinary performance and installation work incorporating opera, choreography, video, and site-specific installation.
This year, Lina Lapelytė, together with Vaiva Grainyte and Rugile Barzdziukaite, will represent Lithuania at the 58th Biennale di Venezia with an opera-installation Sun and Sea (Marina). Other upcoming projects include Fondation Cartier, Paris; Kunsthalle Praha, Prague; Kevin Space, Vienna; and Space Studios, London.
In 2017, Lapelytė staged her first major solo exhibition, 'Pirouette', at Rupert, Vilnius LT, curated by director Juste Jonutyte. Lapelytė’s recent group and performance projects include Waiting for another coming, Ujazdowski Castle CCA, Warsaw PL; Centrale Fies, Trento IT; Art Night 2018, London UK; Baltic Triennial 13, Vilnius LT / Riga LV / Tallinn EE; Pirouette, KIM?, Riga LV; and BRIDGE STRIKE!, Syndicate, Athens GR. Lapelytė was born 1984 in Lithuania and lives in Vilnius and London.
Originally trained as an architect, Maruša Sagadin’s artistic work focuses on creating public sites for shared action and communal experience through sculpture and performance. These products, built to be activated by their participants, utilise humour and the special language forged through an affirmative, intercultural urban identity.
Her upcoming projects include a public sculpture for the town of Göpritz, Austria. Sagadin’s recent projects include the newly commissioned artist bar at the Secession Wien; Joint Ventures, Belvedere 21, Vienna AT (with Cäcilia Brown and Noële Ody); Citizen Janes, a site-specific micro-sculpture-park, with Syndicate at NADA New York 2018; and She in Caps, a solo exhibition at Koenig2 in Vienna. Sagadin was born 1978 in Ljubljana, Slovenia and lives in Vienna.
